Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in 1582 when he was 18 and she was 26. Mary Arden was his mother, and Elizabeth Hall was his granddaughter.

Answer: The Tempest
The Tempest, written around 1610 to 1611, is thought to be one of the last plays Shakespeare wrote alone. Prospero's farewell to magic is often read as Shakespeare's farewell to the stage.
- Q9: In which year did Shakespeare die?
Answer: 1616
Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616, traditionally said to be his birthday too. He is buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Answer: First Folio
Two of his fellow actors, John Heminges and Henry Condell, gathered 36 plays for the First Folio. Without it, around 18 plays, including Macbeth and The Tempest, might have been lost.
Shakespeare Quiz β The World's Most Famous Playwright
William Shakespeare is often called the greatest writer in the English language. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564, he became an actor, playwright and part-owner of a theater company in London. Over about 25 years he wrote around 37 plays and 154 sonnets, and his work has been translated into every major language and performed more than that of any other playwright.
His plays fall into three main groups. The tragedies, such as Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, King Lear and Romeo and Juliet, explore ambition, jealousy and fate. The comedies, such as A Midsummer Night's Dream and Twelfth Night, are full of disguises, mistaken identities and happy endings. The histories, including Richard III and Henry V, dramatize the lives of English kings.
Shakespeare also shaped the English language itself. He is credited with the first recorded use of hundreds of words and phrases that are still used today, such as break the ice, wild-goose chase and a heart of gold.
Much of what we know about his plays comes from the First Folio of 1623, collected by his friends after his death. The reconstructed Globe Theatre in London lets audiences watch his plays much as people did more than 400 years ago, standing in the yard in front of the stage.
This quiz covers his life, his plays and the theater world he worked in, with a short explanation for every answer.
