Michael Jackson Quiz – The Life and Music of the King of Pop

Michael Jackson was performing on stage before most children learn to ride a bike. Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1958, he became the lead singer of the Jackson 5 with his brothers and was a star by the age of 11. Motown Records, the famous Detroit label, turned the group into one of the biggest acts of the early 1970s.

As a solo artist, Jackson teamed up with producer Quincy Jones to make Off the Wall in 1979. Three years later came Thriller, an album that mixed pop, rock, funk and R&B and broke almost every sales record in the music industry. Its music videos, especially the 14-minute Thriller film, turned the music video into an art form.

Jackson was just as famous for dancing as for singing. The moonwalk, the spins, the toe stands and the crotch grab became his signature moves, copied by fans in school halls and on dance floors everywhere. His live shows used lights, costumes and choreography on a scale that few artists had tried before.

He also used his fame for charity. We Are the World, which he wrote with Lionel Richie in 1985, brought together dozens of stars to raise money for famine relief in Africa.

His influence can still be heard in artists from Usher and Justin Timberlake to Bruno Mars and The Weeknd. This quiz follows his career from childhood star to global icon.
