Grand Slam Legends Quiz β Tennis's Greatest Champions
In tennis, the four Grand Slam tournaments are the biggest prizes of all. The Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open each last two weeks and attract the best players in the world. Winning just one is the dream of every professional, so the players who have won many of them are remembered as legends of the sport.
Some of the earliest records still stand out. Rod Laver of Australia won the calendar Grand Slam, all four majors in the same year, in both 1962 and 1969. His countrywoman Margaret Court won 24 major singles titles, a record that lasted for decades. Steffi Graf went one step further in 1988 by adding Olympic gold to all four majors.
Later decades produced more great champions. Martina Navratilova won nine Wimbledon titles, Chris Evert dominated on clay and Pete Sampras ruled the grass courts of the 1990s. Serena Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most in the Open Era, and changed women's tennis with her power and athleticism.
From the 2000s, three men pushed each other to new heights. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, known as the Big Three, won more than 60 majors between them. Nadal won the French Open 14 times, and Djokovic reached 24 titles in 2023. Younger stars such as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are now writing the next chapter.
This quiz covers the records and champions that define Grand Slam tennis.
