Champions League Quiz – The Pinnacle of Club Football
The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious club competition in world football. Every season, the best teams from Europe's top leagues compete for the famous trophy with the big handles. Its anthem, played before every match, has become one of the most recognizable sounds in sport, and its final is watched by hundreds of millions of people.
The competition began in 1955 as the European Cup, a knockout tournament for national champions. Real Madrid won the first five editions, led by Alfredo Di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskás. In 1992 it was relaunched as the Champions League, with a group stage and, later, places for more teams from the strongest leagues. In 2024 a new league phase replaced the groups.
The competition is famous for dramatic finals. Manchester United scored twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich in 1999, Liverpool fought back from 3–0 down against AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005, and Real Madrid won three titles in a row from 2016 to 2018. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi set scoring records that may never be matched.
Recent seasons have brought new winners. Manchester City lifted their first trophy in 2023, Real Madrid won a record 15th title in 2024, and Paris Saint-Germain finally became champions in 2025. PSG then won again in 2026, beating Arsenal on penalties at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
