Beatles Quiz – The Story of the Fab Four

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr recorded together for less than eight years, from their first single in 1962 to the band's split in 1970. In that time they moved from matching suits and two-minute love songs to studio experiments such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and they changed how albums were made, sold and listened to.

The Beatles remain the best-selling band in history, with estimated sales of more than 600 million units worldwide, and their songs are still among the most covered and most streamed music of the 1960s.

Most of their records were made at EMI's studios on Abbey Road in London with producer George Martin, who helped them add string sections, tape loops and sounds played backward. In 1966 they stopped touring for good, partly because screaming crowds drowned out the music, and from then on the studio became their main instrument.
