2000s Music Quiz – Hits From the iPod Era
The 2000s were a strange and exciting time for music. CDs were still selling in huge numbers at the start of the decade, but by the end most people were buying songs one at a time on iTunes or sharing them online. The iPod put thousands of tracks in every pocket, and MySpace and YouTube gave new artists a way to find fans without a record deal.
Hip-hop and R&B ruled the charts. Eminem became the best-selling artist of the decade, OutKast pushed rap in new directions and Beyoncé stepped out from Destiny's Child to become a solo superstar. Producers such as Timbaland and The Neptunes created sounds that are still copied today.
Rock found new life too. Green Day returned with American Idiot, Coldplay grew into a stadium band and garage-rock acts like the White Stripes and the Strokes made guitars cool again. Pop-punk and emo filled teenagers' playlists.
At the end of the decade, a new generation took over. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry brought theatrical pop, Taylor Swift crossed from country to the mainstream and Justin Bieber showed how a teenager with a webcam could become a global star.
This quiz covers the albums, singles and stars that defined music from 2000 to 2009.
